Iconic film turns into a musical for 2 nights of performances at Modesto’s Gallo Center

If you loved the movie “Pretty Woman,” you can catch the story set to music at the Gallo Center. It’s one of three hit film-based productions coming to the Modesto region. Check out the entertainment planned for March 1-7.

“Pretty Woman”

Based on the 1990 romantic movie that starred Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, “Pretty Woman — The Musical” pulls into the Gallo Center for two nights of shows. The production from two-time Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell features an original score by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance. Limited tickets were available.

Andy Grammer: Monster Tour

Andy Grammer and his band perform his new album, “Monster,” at the Gallo Center. The show also will feature past hits, including “Honey, I’m Good“, “Good to Be Alive (Hallelujah)“, and “Fresh Eyes.“ It marks his first appearance at the Gallo Center since 2016.

“Boeing Boeing”

Gallo Center Repertory Company brings the 1960s French farce “Boeing Boeing” to the venue’s stage. Adapted in English, the production features the story of a man with Italian, German and American fiancées, all airline hostesses. But an unexpected schedule changes bring all three to Paris, and to his apartment, at the same time. Jerry Lewis and Tony Curtis starred in a film based on the comedy.

Red Carpet Party

The State Theatre’s annual Oscars night Red Carpet Party returns with the awards show broadcast. “It’s a glamorous affair, so dress to impress in your finest red carpet attire and mingle with your fellow A-listers,” the theater’s website says. There will be photo booths, small bites and trivia with prizes.

Al Stewart and Colin Blunstone

Al Stewart & The Empty Pockets and Colin Blunstone of The Zombies will play a show at the State Theatre. Stewart was part of the British folk revival in the 1960s. He’s best known for hits “Year of the Cat” and “On the Border.” Blunstone was a lead singer for British rock band The Zombies from the same era. The group’s hits include “She’s Not There,” “Tell Her No,” and “Time of the Season.”

Tribute to Billy Joel

Hear three decades of hits in the “Billy Nation: A Tribute To Billy Joel” concert at the State Theatre. Adam Shapiro and his six-piece band perform the songs “Piano Man,” “You May Be Right,” “Just the Way You Are” and more. Expect a grand piano, saxophone, harmonies and audience engagement.

“Legally Blonde the Musical”

Sierra Repertory Theatre presents “Legally Blonde the Musical” at its Sonora theater. The show is based on the 2001 film starring Reese Witherspoon and tells the story of Elle Woods, a sorority girl whose boyfriend breaks up with her for not being serious. She looks to prove him wrong by enrolling at Harvard Law School. The show is recommended for age 12 and older as it contains mature themes and references.

Celtic fest

The Calaveras Celtic Faire celebrates the cultures of Celtic nations and will feature jousting, live music, Scottish Highland games, living history, a marketplace, food and more. Some events are on specific days only. Friday is an educational day for families, with no alcohol served.
