If you’re hoping to enjoy some comedy, there are several opportunities coming up at venues in the Modesto region. There’s also dancing, music and more entertainment planned from Feb. 22-28.
Clean comedy
The Modesto Rotary Club brings comedian Karen Morgan to the State Theatre for a night of clean comedy. Morgan’s latest CD, “Mean Candy,” is on SiriusXM Radio. Local comedian Aurora Singh will open for Morgan. All proceeds will benefit the MoRo Foundation.

Assyrian Comedy Show
Vincent Oshana and Paul Elia bring their comedy to Turlock Community Theatre. The show is presented by the Assyrian Professionals Association & Assyrian Aid Society of America, Central Valley Chapter. Cabaret table seat purchases include tickets to an afterparty featuring DJ Semon, appetizers, two drink tickets and a meet-and-mingle with the comedians.

Youth for Christ Central Valley brings its fundraising Comedy Night 2025 to the State Theatre. The comedy club-style event will open with Jay Rich and will be headlined by Dustin Nickerson. Nickerson has been seen on Amazon Prime, YouTube and featured on Comedy Central and Netflix, according the theater’s website. YFC serves youth and their families in schools, high-need neighborhoods and juvenile detention facilities through programs, services, outreach and counseling.

Complexions ballet
Contemporary Ballet brings its 30th anniversary show to the Gallo Center, introducing a new work, “For Crying Out Loud” featuring the music of U2. “Using the music of “Songs of Surrender,” U2’s latest release, choreographer and Complexions co-founder Dwight Rhoden brings the vibrancy of the stories told by the music and lyrics into a landscape of expression,” the center website says. The program features a preshow balcony talk with Central West Ballet Artistic Director René Daveluy and a member of Complexions Contemporary Ballet.

Step Afrika!
Founded in 1994 by C. Brian Williams, Step Afrika! is dedicated to the tradition of stepping. The group coming to the Gallo Center “blends percussive dance styles practiced by historically African American fraternities and sororities; traditional African dances; and an array of contemporary dance and art forms into a cohesive, compelling artistic experience,” the center’s website says. Performances integrate songs, storytelling, humor and audience participation.

Dreamers’ Circus
Nordic world music comes to the Gallo Center with Danish trio Dreamers’ Circus. The group draws inspiration from the traditions of folk music in the region and reshapes them into “something bright, shiny and new,” the center’s website says. Dreamers’ Circus is made up of Nikolaj Busk on piano and accordion, Ale Carr on Nordic cittern and Rune Tonsgaard Sorensen on violin.

BYU Ballroom Dance
The BYU Ballroom Dance Company is a university dance ensemble coming to the Gallo Center. Its new show, “Rhythm,” presents “ballroom dance in a theatrical environment with a contemporary point of view,” the center’s website says. “Audiences will be fascinated as couples dance a romantic waltz and will feel the energy as the company moves to the infectious rhythms of Latin America.”

Black History Month luncheon
The Black History Month Empowerment Luncheon Fundraiser is set for the Red Event Center. The Cesar Chavez Community Celebration Committee program includes four local speakers: Austin Grant, Rachel LeViege, Phillip Murrell and Liesha Sanders. In addition, the event will honor Wendy Byrd, president of the local NAACP chapter.

Circus On Ice

Modesto Area Partners in Science
Sora Kim presents “Beyond Shark Week: Environmental Change Based on Chemistry & Fossils” at Modesto Junior College. She will discuss what chemistry can reveal about the iconic white sharks and megalodon. Kim’s work has been featured in “Shark Week” programs on the Discovery Channel.
