The latest from Modesto native Jeremy Renner won’t involve acting. See what he’s doing
Modesto native and Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner’s latest venture doesn’t involve acting.
The Beyer High School graduate will release a book, “My Next Breath,” according to a story online in The Hollywood Reporter. It will be about the events surrounding his Jan. 1, 2023, near-fatal snowplow accident.
Set for release April 29, the story says the “memoir will recount the accident and its aftermath ‘in blistering detail,’” according to publisher Macmillan, “while shedding light on his lengthy recovery process and the impact the experience has had on his life.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter story, Macmillan said, “This retelling is not merely a gruesome account of what happened to him; it’s a call to action and a forged companionship between reader and author as Jeremy recounts his recovery journey and reflects on the impact of his suffering.”
Renner has been open about sharing details about his recovery and often posted updates on his progress on social media along the way.
“He shared that his rib cage was rebuilt with metal, and he had received metal plates in his face and titanium rods in one of his legs due to his injuries. Renner, too, candidly revealed he was ‘terrified’ to take on new acting roles during an appearance on the Smartless podcast 18 months after the accident,” the story said.
Renner, 54, recently expressed his gratitude on social media two years after his snowplow accident.
He posted Jan. 1 on Instagram that he was “Ringing in my second ‘ReBirthday’ today.”
A photo also was posted of him and several medical staff members. “I send out my love, respect, and gratitude for the army of people that it took to put me back together again. Thank you to each and every nurse, doctor, first responder … I literally owe you my life.”
According to a previous story in The Bee, Renner was with family on his property near Reno when he went to clear his nephew’s vehicle from the snow after a storm. He had gotten out of the snowplow, which began rolling. When Renner tried to get back in to stop it, he was pulled under one of its treads and crushed.
Renner’s Paramount+ streaming series “Mayor of Kingstown” recently was renewed for a fourth season.
Also known for playing Marvel character Hawkeye, he will return to the big screen in this year with “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.” He joins Daniel Craig in the Netflix film, which first will be in theaters.
