Trio of 1970s music hitmakers to join for a show at Modesto’s Gallo Center. See when

The Gallo Center for the Arts offers a 1970s music reunion with Atlanta Rhythm Section, Firefall and Walter Egan. The tale of “Hansel and Gretel” becomes an opera at the State Theatre. These are just some of the entertainment options planned in the Modesto region Jan. 18-24.

1970s reunion

The “Ultimate 70’s Reunion: Atlanta Rhythm Section, Firefall & Walter Egan” pulls into the Gallo Center in Modesto. Southern rock band Atlanta Rhythm Section is known for the songs “So Into You,” “Spooky” and “Imaginary Lover.” Country rock band Firefall’s hits include “Mexico,” “It Doesn’t Matter” and “Just Remember I Love You”. Soft rocker Walter Egan is known for “Magnet and Steel,” “Full Moon Fire” and “Hot Summer Nights.” Limited tickets were available.

“Hansel and Gretel”

Opera Modesto presents “Hansel and Gretel” at the State Theatre in Modesto. The opera, sung in English, is based on the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. According to the theater’s website, “Hungry and bored, Hansel and Gretel dance and sing instead of doing their chores. Their angry mother sends them into the enchanted forest to search for food to eat ... they stumble upon a mysterious, edible house, which turns out to be inhabited by a terrifying, child-eating Witch.”

Garrison Keillor

“Garrison Keillor Tonight” features Keillor in a one-man show with stand-up, storytelling, audience song and poetry, coming to the Gallo Center. According to the center’s website, there will be “sung sonnets, limericks and musical jokes, and the thread that runs through it is the beauty of growing old.” Limited tickets were available.

“The Aluminum Show”

Coming to the Gallo Center, “The Aluminum Show” offers “a magical, mystery-filled creation combining visual theater dance and humor into an exciting, multi-sensory experience, the likes of which comes as a huge surprise to audiences,” according to the center’s website. It’s tells the story of a man’s journey to a futuristic planet made of aluminum.

MAPS presentations

Modesto Area Partners in Science presents “Conservation Ambassadors’ Wild Things — Animals of the World” at the Modesto Junior College East Campus. There will be two presentations featuring rescue stories and a message to inspire appreciation for the creatures in our world.
