Former Modestan goes ‘Back to the Future’ to make his name on Broadway
Another former Modestan is looking to make his mark on Broadway.
Sam Gerber, who performed with YES Company while a student in Modesto, is part of the cast of “Back to the Future: The Musical” in New York.
Gerber is a swing performer, including as the understudy’s replacement for the lead role of Marty McFly, according to Playbill.com.
A swing performer acts as an understudy for several roles in a production.
Gerber also appeared with another Modesto Broadway actress, Lindsay Pearce, in a touring production of “Mean Girls” last year, according to a previous story in The Bee. That show made a stop in San Francisco.
“Back to the Future” is a musical based on the iconic 1985 feature film. It’s been brought to the stage by the movie’s co-writers, Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis, according to Playbill.
It’s been playing at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway since August.
Gerber is among several former Modestans to appear on Broadway, the most prominent being Pearce, whose credits include a starring role as Elphaba in “Wicked,” and Jeremy Stolle who played the title character for a time while in the cast of “Phantom of the Opera.”
