Modesto women start group to get children singing. Here’s how to sign up your kids
The harmony of three local women has led them to establish a new youth chorus in Modesto.
Polly Vasché, Beth Holtan and Chelsea Foy have announced the founding of the Central Valley Youth Chorus (CVYC).
“Inspired by the rich history of children’s choral ensembles in the Central Valley, CVYC seeks to continue the legacy of these wonderful organizations,” a news release said. “The founders share a deep-rooted passion for the arts and a profound commitment to nurturing young talents.”
Enrollment is open for singers in grades four through eight, the release said, and need-based scholarships will be available. Rehearsals begin Oct. 9. CVYC hopes to expand the enrollment age range in the future.
“Our mission is to empower young singers to discover their spirit of creativity, compassion and teamwork through the transformative art of choral music,” Vasché said in the release.
The organization, which recently filed for nonprofit status, is committed to diversity, inclusivity and access, the release said, to make the chorus available to all children.
Registration is $75 and includes all rehearsals, performances and a CVYC T-shirt.
Rehearsals will be on Mondays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in downtown Modesto, beginning Oct. 9. The fall semester ends with a performance Dec. 4.
