$4 movies? Here’s where, why, when you can see ‘Barbie,’ ‘Oppenheimer,’ more in Modesto area

It’s not often you can see a movie at the cineplex for $4, but it’s happening for one day only this weekend.
Three Modesto area theaters — the Regals in Modesto and Turlock, and Galaxy in Riverbank — are taking part in National Cinema Day on Sunday, Aug. 27, according to the National Cinema Day website.
In addition to the discounted tickets, the Regal theaters are offering $4 small popcorn and small drink combos at its concessions.
The Cinema Foundation announced the return of National Cinema Day, according to a story on Boxoffice Pro, with the discounted admissions at participating U.S. theaters in all formats.
The one-day event will be held at more than 3,000 locations on more than 30,000 screens nationwide, the story said.
Some currently running movies and past favorites are being offered. Here’s a look at the $4 films and the theaters showing them locally:

Tickets can be purchased at the theater websites, www.regmovies.com, www.galaxytheatres.com/movie-theater/riverbank; or at the National Cinema Day website.
The Regal theaters are at 3969 McHenry Ave., Modesto and 2323 W Main St, Turlock. Galaxy is at 2525 Patterson Road, Riverbank.
The Brenden Theatres website says the chain’s participating in National Cinema Day “excludes Modesto 18 location.”
