MAMA is back. MAMA as in the Modesto Area Music Association awards, handed out to local artists, venues and more each year.

The public can vote until Sunday, Oct. 16, at 11:59 p.m. for their favorites in 13 categories at www.modestoareamusic.com, according to a press release from the Modesto Area Music Association.

While the ceremony is by invitation only at the State Theatre in downtown Modesto, it will broadcast live on ModestoView at www.modestoview.com beginning at 6:30 pm. Tuesday, Oct. 18.

This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award will go to Kyle Barker, “who has been in the center of our local music scene since the early 1970s and has helped showcase many of our local music legends,” the release said.

Middagh Goodwin will host the evening, which will include live performances by Modesto area artists and “some special surprises,” the release said.

The Modesto Area Music Association is a nonprofit co-founded by Chris Murphy and Chris Ricci.

“Live music is trying to rebound in our community, and now, more than ever, we need to promote, push and proclaim how important live music is to our community and what we can do to encourage more live performances in our area and encourage more venues to host live music,” the release said.
