Former Modestan and Broadway performer Morgan James is set to play a pair of shows in Northern California.

James, who graduated from Johansen High School in Modesto, will play March 10 at Yoshi’s in Oakland and March 11-12 at the Blue Note in Napa, according to an email from her public relations firm.

James was part of the original Broadway cast of “Motown: The Musical” in 2013. She also was in the casts of “Godspell,” “Wonderland” and “The Addams Family.”

She has appeared as a soloist with orchestras worldwide and now makes records and tours with her band, the email said.

James released her ode to classic Memphis soul, “Memphis Magnetic,” in 2020, and its holiday companion, “A Very Magnetic Christmas,” in 2021.

Her performances are at 8 p.m. March 10 at Yoshi’s, with tickets at $29-$69. She plays at 7 and 9:15 p.m. March 11, 6:30 and 9 p.m. March 12 at Blue Note, with tickets at $27.50-$59, according to her PR firm.
