Hit making country group coming to Modesto; more regional entertainment
Country’s Eli Young Band plans a show at the Gallo Center in Modesto, where there also will be a tribute to Aretha Franklin and more. Ukulele artist Jake Shimabukuro at the Turlock Community Theatre and the Calaveras Celtic Faire also are among the entertainment planned March 5 to 11 in the region.

Country group Eli Young Band brings its music to the Gallo Center. Its hits include “Love Ain’t,” “Drunk Last Night,” “Even If It Breaks Your Heart” and “Crazy Girl.” The group has earned awards and nominations from Billboard Magazine, the Academy of Country Music, the Grammy Awards and more.

Celtic celebration
The Calaveras Celtic Faire returns to Angels Camp with jousting, live Celtic music, vendors, food, other performers and more. Returning will be the Imperial Knights Tournament of Champions, performing stunts on horseback, jousting and hand-to-hand combat with a variety of medieval weapons. The fair celebrates the cultures of all Celtic nations.

Jake Shimabukuro
Dubbed “the Jimi Hendrix of the ukulele,” Jake Shimabukuro brings his music to the Turlock Community Theatre. Shimabukuro has redefined the Hawaiian stringed instrument and pushed the boundaries to include music that ranges from jazz, blues and rock to bluegrass, classical and folk.

Live From Laurel Canyon arrives at the Gallo Center. The program offers a multimedia retrospective of American folk rock artists including The Mamas and The Papas; the Byrds; Buffalo Springfield; Doors; Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young; James Taylor; Carole King; Joni Mitchell; Jackson Browne; Linda Ronstadt; America; and the Eagles.

Tribute to Aretha Franklin
Musician, vocalist and composer Damien Sneed toured with Aretha Franklin later in her career. In his “Tribute to Aretha Franklin: The Queen of Soul” at the Gallo Center, Sneed offers renditions of her hits including “Respect,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “Precious Memories,” “Think,” “Until You Come Back To Me,” “Natural Woman” and more. He’ll be joined by singer and songwriter Valerie Simpson, half of the duo Ashford & Simpson.

Gallo Center Rep
A production of “Holes” will be presented by the Gallo Center Repertory Company. In the story, Stanley is sent to a juvenile detention camp for a crime he didn’t commit, where he and the other boys are forced to dig large holes in the dirt. They eventually realize they are digging holes because the warden is searching for something. The story is based on the novel by Louis Sachar.
