Ed Staley: Quit scrutinizing Trump’s every move, at least until he takes office

I can actively remember only 10 or so presidential elections and their aftermath. In this lame-duck period, I cannot remember such scrutiny and magnifying-glass micro-vision of the president-elect in any of those years from newspapers, TV and now the Internet. When Donald Trump walks up the stairs there seems to be a story about it in the New York Times and The Modesto Bee. Forgive me, but let’s stop writing about implications, maybe-about-to-happen and “trending” moves. Let’s focus on what is actually done when it happens. I have the utmost respect for unfettered press in this country, but we elected the man, now let’s give him a chance.

Ed Staley, Modesto
