Modesto karate instructor arrested on molestation charges

A Modesto karate instructor was arrested on molestation charges Wednesday after detectives learned he sexually abused a 14 year old boy in his home for almost a year, police said.

Detectives with the Modesto Police Department’s Special Victims Unit launched an investigation last week after receiving information that Carlos Loya, 50, molested a former karate student. The alleged molestation occurred nearly three years ago, police said.

The victim, who was 14-years-old at the time, frequented his instructor’s southwest Modesto home where the sexual abuse allegedly took place.

Loya was booked into Stanislaus County Jail on Wednesday morning on charges of continuous sexual abuse of a minor, sodomy, child molestation and oral copulation.
