Modesto

A 28-year-old Modesto man was fatally shot in west Modesto on Sunday night, police reported.

The shooting occurred about 10:45 p.m. in the 1600 block of Nian Way, a few blocks east of Robertson Road Park.

The victim, Robert Farish, was outside with others when a vehicle drove by, a passenger fired a single shot and the driver sped off, Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Heather Graves said. Farish was shot in the side; he was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, she said.

The vehicle involved in the shooting is described as a gray or black newer model sedan, similar to a Mustang.

Detectives believe the shooting was not a random act and are investigating the details leading up to the incident.
