Two women shot to death near Newman are identified

The two women shot to death Friday night in a rural area west of Newman were identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner's Office on Monday afternoon.

Lisa Herger, 29, of Patterson, and Tiffany Herrera, 27, of Newman, both were pronounced dead at the scene near Orestimba and Bell roads just east of Interstate 5.

Detectives have released little information since Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department deputies and Newman Police Department officers were called to the area on a report of a drive-by shooting..

When they arrived, they found the two women suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency crews attempted life-saving measures, but Herger and Herrera were pronounced dead at the scene.

Sgt. Anthony Bejaran released initial details about the case on Saturday morning. However, since then, there have been no updates, including potential suspect information or motive.
