Two women shot to death west of Newman near Interstate 5

Two women were shot to death west of Newman on Friday night, authorities said.

A 911 call came in at about 10:40 p.m. on a report of a drive-by shooting at Orestimba and Bell roads near Interstate 5, according to Sgt. Anthony Bejaran of the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies and officers with the sheriff's office and the Newman Police Department arrived minutes later. Emergency crews attempted CPR on the two victims, but they were pronounced dead at the scene, Bejaran said.

Detectives were on scene throughout the night. They have no immediate suspect information.

The names of the victims are being withheld until family members have been notified.

This is the second double-homicide this month being investigated by the sheriff's department.

On Oct. 12, two men were found dead behind a county home south of Oakdale and east of Riverbank. Their bodies were found near a shop behind the home by another man who lives at the home, who was not considered a suspect.

Anyone with information about Friday night's homicide is asked to call Detective David Hickman at 209-525-7042.

We'll update this story as information becomes available.
