A Modesto man is set to appear in court Thursday on three counts of child molestation.

The crimes are alleged to have occurred over roughly the past five years and involved family members who live inside the home, said Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Heather Graves. The incidents involve children under the age of 14. The accused is Juan Currington, 55.

A family member reported the alleged molestation, Graves said. The original report was of two victims and lacked some specifics, she said, and Currington was arrested Sept. 24 on misdemeanor charges of annoying or molesting a child under the age of 18.

More information came to light, Graves said, and a Ramey warrant was issued. Currington was arrested Oct. 4 on two felony counts, and a third was added within days.

With the addition of the third count, his bail amount was increased from $225,000 to $1.05 million. He remained in custody at the Stanislaus County Jail on Tuesday morning.

A Facebook page for a Modesto man of the same name has an intro that reads, “Loving our lives as a foster parents so grateful to be able to provide a loving home for children.”

The Stanislaus County Community Services Agency, which oversees foster care, said it could not confirm or deny that Juan Currington is or has been a foster parent.
