Firefighters contain bedroom fire in Modesto home

Firefighters attacked a fire in a burning bedroom Monday afternoon and kept the flames from reaching the rest of the east Modesto home.

The fire was first reported about 3:50 p.m. Monday at the small house in the 2800 block of Rodney Avenue, just south of Yosemite Boulevard and east of Riverside Drive.

The first firefighters who arrived found heavy smoke coming out of the bedroom in the back of the house, said Division Chief Mike Lillie of the Modesto Fire Department.

The firefighters launched an interior attack on the blaze, entering through the home's front door heading toward the bedroom. Lillie said firefighters contained the flames in the bedroom, however, there was some smoke and heat damage in the nearby hallway.

The residents were not home when the fire started. No injuries were reported.

The firefighters remained at the home making sure there were no smoldering spots that could reignite the fire.

Lillie said investigators had not determined the cause of the fire, and it was unclear the cost of the damage to the home and its contents.

Ceres Fire Department and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District assisted in putting out the fire.
