Modesto woman mauled by family pit bull
A woman in Modesto’s airport neighborhood was taken to the hospital with severe injuries after she was attacked by her 50-pound pit bull Wednesday morning.
The woman saw her dog attacking the family’s rooster in the backyard of their Kerr Avenue home at about 10:30 a.m. and went to intervene, said Modesto Sgt. Pat Kimes.
The dog turned on her, biting her legs and arms. The most severe injury was to one of her arms, a bite wound that exposed her biceps.
A neighbor heard the woman screaming for help and called 911.
Kimes said the woman’s husband and children were home at the time but it is unclear if they heard the attack. It’s also unclear how the woman got away from the dog, but an animal control officer lassoed it with a catch pole and secured it in his car.
The dog will be held for a 10-day quarantine period. Kimes said animal control will follow up with the family to determine what further action they want to take.
