Detectives investigating after man’s body found in San Joaquin River

An investigation is underway after a man’s body was found floating in the San Joaquin River east of Vernalis Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters from Woodland Avenue Fire Department and Patterson Fire Department and Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies responded after a woman who was fishing with her child discovered the body among a collection of driftwood near the shore.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and detectives responded to the area, which is just west of Old Fisherman’s club.

Patterson Firefighters used a boat to get the body to remove it from the water.

No other information about the man – where he was from, how old he was, how he died, or or how long he’d been in the water – was available late Thursday afternoon.
