Pedestrian killed in Tully Road crash Saturday; coroner seeks family
A 69-year-old man died at the scene after being struck by a vehicle on Tully Road south of Snyder Avenue on Saturday night.
The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Richard Jenkins, a transient living in Modesto. He was on foot when struck.
Modesto police officers responded at about 10:45 p.m. to a report of a person down in the roadway, Police Department spokeswoman Heather Graves said. Jenkins was pronounced dead after lifesaving measures at the scene failed, she said.
The early investigation indicates Jenkins was walking north in the roadway when he was struck by a 2002 Honda Accord also heading north, Graves said. The driver of the Honda remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to have factored in the crash, which remains under investigation, police said.
Any of Jenkins’ family members, or people who know their whereabouts, are asked to call sheriff’s Detective Andrew Glover at 209-567-4480
Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact police Officer Brian Ferguson at fergusonb@modestopd.com or Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward. Tipsters may also text information to Crime Stoppers at 274637. Just type “TIP704” along with your message.
