Pilot survives Ultralight plane crash into Woodward Reservoir, sheriff's office says

The pilot of an Ultralight airplane escaped injury when it crashed Sunday into Woodward Reservoir, the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department reported.

It was dispatched at 6:26 p.m. on a report that the very small aircraft had landed in the reservoir, north of Oakdale.

The unidentified pilot had engine failure before the crash, Sgt. Martin Machado said, and boaters on the popular lake aided him.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the accident, Machado said.
