San Jose outlasts Modesto in California League pitchers’ duel
The Modesto Nuts’ Parker French and the San Jose Giants’ Mark Reyes hooked up in a classic pitchers’ duel Friday night at John Thurman Field, with Reyes and the Giants earning a 2-1 California League victory.
Reyes, a 6-foot-1, 225-pound left-hander, allowed three hits and two walks with three strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings. He gave up an RBI double to Wes Rogers in the seventh.
French was nearly as impressive, giving up four hits and a walk with four strikeouts over seven innings. He gave up one run each in the fifth and seventh.
Rodolfo Martinez worked a perfect ninth for his league-leading 13th save, touching 101 mph on the radar gun.
Nuts first baseman Collin Ferguson was 2 for 3, while Giants shortstop C.J. Hinojosa and left fielder Daniel Carbonell were 2 for 4.
The Nuts hosted the Giants on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. before the series moved to San Jose for games Sunday at 1 p.m. and Monday at 2 p.m.
