Modesto Nuts lose heartbreaker to Visalia

The Modesto Nuts had the tying run cut down at the plate to end Sunday’s 2-1 loss to visiting Visalia.

It was a costly loss for the Nuts, who fell six games behind San Jose and Visalia in the California League North, but more importantly, three games behind San Jose and Stockton in the wild-card race. The Nuts have just seven games left.

In Sunday’s game, the Nuts entered the ninth trailing 2-0. With runners at first and second and two outs, Drew Weeks singled to drive in Rosell Herrera. Visalia shortstop Domingo Leyba made a throwing error on the play, and Ashley Graeter tried to score the tying run. He was thrown out at home.

Daniel Palka homered in the frist for Visalia. Jamie Westbrook homered in the eighth for the Rawhide.
