Nuts lose to Visalia, fall 6 games back
The Modesto Nuts fell six games back in the California League North division Friday night after losing to the Visalia Rawhide 6-2 at John Thurman Field.
Visalia’s big inning came in the third when it scored four runs, including a two-run homer by Kevin Cron. Gerson Montilla also homered in the second for the Rawhide.
Modesto scored its two runs in the ninth when Ryan McMahon walked and went to second on a line-drive single to center field by Ashley Graeter and then scored on Drew Weeks’ single to right. After Dillon Thomas walked to load the bases, Graeter scored on a wild pitch.
Johendi Jiminian (4-10) was the losing pitcher for the Nuts, giving up all six runs on nine hits in five innings. Devin Burke pitched four innings for Modesto, giving up no runs and one hit.
Visalia used six pitchers, with Tom Jameson (3-0) getting the win in relief. He pitched 21/3 innings, giving up no runs and four hits.
Visalia is tied with San Jose for the division lead with a 38-23 record, while the Nuts are six games back at 32-29.
