Modesto Nuts

Baseball hall of famer Rollie Fingers in Modesto. See what’s coming up for Nuts

Oakland A’s Hall of Famer and baseball legend Rollie Fingers thrilled fans with an appearance at John Thurman Field. The former Modesto Reds pitcher signed autographs and met with fans during the Modesto Nuts game with the Stockton Ports. The Nuts won, 5-3.

This is the final homestand of the season and the last of Minor League Baseball in Modesto. Here’s what coming up at Thurman Field:

Thursday is a special Pups N Pints night, presented by BARK. After the game, longtime Nuts bat dog Bullwinkle will be honored for his years of service as he enters retirement. Fans are encouraged to bring their dogs to the park and stay for the postgame Dog Park in the outfield.

Friday night, the postgame sky will be lit up with fireworks one last time. There also will be a face painter at the ballpark for two hours. Save Mart will host a school supplies drive. Fans can donate two school items or two packs of pens and pencils for a free ticket at the box office.

Saturday is Stanislaus State night. Wear Stan State gear or show a school ID to get a ticket to the game for $5. It is also the final Los Alebrijes de Modesto Night, featuring post-game Lucha Libre. Throughout the game, fans can play Stadium-Wide Loteria.

Sunday’s series finale is the final minor-league baseball game at John Thurman Field and the final Modesto Nuts game in franchise history. Kids 12 and younger get in free. Free tickets will be available at the box office. Modesto Nuts alumni players and event staff will also get in for free. Text proof of employment (shirt, badge, paystub or photo) at least 48 hours in advance to 209-572-4487.

Fans will want to show up to the ballpark early Sunday prior to the 12:05 p.m. first pitch. When gates open, the first 500 fans will receive a voucher for the final giveaway. Items will be handed out during the game to patrons with vouchers only. The Nuts will host a player-worn jersey auction with proceeds going to the Stanislaus Arts Council. There will also be a pregame player autograph session. Sunday will also be the final day of the garage sale and fans will be able to walk on the field and will be invited to run the bases one final time.

“The Modesto Nuts have been a cornerstone of the Modesto community, providing family-friendly entertainment, unforgettable moments, and a love for the game,” the Nuts’ release said. “As we close our final season, we celebrate the players, the fans (and) the staff that has kept baseball alive in Modesto.”
