Blaze beats Nuts on Petty’s blast in ninth
Bakersfield’s Kyle Petty hit a three-run homer off Devin Burke with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Blaze were 5-2 walkoff winners over the visiting Modesto Nuts on Friday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.
Tim Lopes opened the inning with a double to center. Tyler O’Neill was then walked intentionally before Austin Wilson struck out, setting the stage for Petty’s seventh homer of the year. The Blaze has won the first two games of the four-game series and has a three-game winning streak overall.
Modesto jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first when Raimel Tapia singled and later scored on an infield single. Michael Benjamin later stole home.
Lopes doubled in a run in the bottom of the third, and scored the tying run on a ground out.
