Rancho Cucamonga completes three-game sweep of Modesto Nuts

The Modesto Nuts were swept out of town by the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes with a 13-2 California League loss at LoanMart Field on Friday.

The Nuts (23-25) were outscored 32-6 in three-game set and now sit 10 games back of Visalia in the race for North Division’s first-half title. The Rawhide, whose magic number is 13 to clinch the division title, will host the Nuts in a four-game series beginning Friday at 7 p.m.

Rancho Cucamonga owns a one-game lead over High Desert in the South Division standings.

Modesto starter Konner Wade had already give up five runs on five hits, three walks and a pair of Nuts errors, and trailed 5-1 after four innings. Wade dug himself a bigger hole in the fifth by yielding a walk, triple and double to start the frame. He was relieved by Troy Neiman, who promptly surrendered a double, homer and another double, hit a batter, then yielded an RBI single before getting the first two outs of the inning, each of which plated runs.

By the time the fifth inning was over, the Quakes had scored seven runs on six hits and a walk and led 12-1.

Ramiel Tapia, Jordan Patterson and Ryan McMahon each had two hits for Modesto. Patterson’s batting average now sits at .340, good for third in the Cal League behind Ryan Lollis (.345) and RC’s Kyle Farmer (.342).
