Modesto blanked by San Jose, fall 9 back in race for California League’s North Division

The Modesto Nuts were blanked for the third time this season, falling 2-0 to the San Jose Giants on Tuesday at Municipal Stadium.

Coupled with Visalia’s 9-3 win over Lake Elsinore, the Nuts fall to nine games back of the Rawhide in the race for the California League’s North Division first-half title. Visalia comes will visit John Thurman Field for a four-game series beginning Thursday.

Modesto got a solid pitching performance from Johendi Jiminian (2-4), who gave up just one earned run, four hits – two off the bat of Correlle Prime – and three walks in six innings of work. However, San Jose’s Keury Mella (2-1) was better. The hard-throwing right-hander allowed just three hits in 6 2/3 innings, walking one and fanning four. San Jose’s bullpen struck out four and allow just one hit in the final 2 1/3 innings. The teams will see action again Wednesday at 6:30 p.m when the Nuts’ Harrison Musgrave (4-1, 4.15) matches up against D.J. Snelton (0-4, 5.33).

Modesto and San Jose will wrap their three-game set Thursday with an 11:30 a.m. game.
