Modesto-born Erika Connolly helps Team USA relay swim team win silver at 2024 Olympics

Modesto-born swimmer Erika Connolly helped Team USA take silver in the women’s 4x100 meter freestyle relay Saturday in Paris.

Connolly did not compete in the final but did compete in the qualifying heat earlier in the day. She swam the third leg for the United States team, which easily won its heat in 3 minutes, 33.29 seconds to advance to the final.

It is her second Olympics as she took home a silver medal in the 4×100 meter medley and a bronze medal in the 4×100 meter freestyle relay in the 2020 games.

Connolly, formerly known as Erika Brown, swam for Ripon Aquatics early in her youth career and spent her freshman year at Ripon High before moving to North Carolina. She finished her high school career a two-time state champion and went on to have a successful college career at the University of Tennessee.

In the 4x100 meter freestyle final, Team USA set an American record, finishing in 3:30.20, behind Australia.

As of Monday morning, Team USA leads the total medal count with 18. The United States has three gold medals and is first in both silver (8) and bronze (7) medals. The 2024 Paris Olympics continues through Aug. 11.
