A statistical look at the A’s 6-5 loss in 12 innings to the Houston Astros and the Giants’ 7-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday:

1: Saturday’s loss was the A’s first in extra innings this season.

2: Starts in which pitcher Jeff Samardzija has failed to complete the sixth inning during the Giants’ current road trip, after doing so in each of his previous five outings.

2: Games in which Sarmardzija has allowed four home runs. The other came in 2013 while he was with the Chicago Cubs.

4 1/3 : Innings pitched by Oakland starter Kendall Graveman on Saturday, which tied his shortest outing this year.

5: Home runs Samardzija had allowed in 80 innings covering 11 starts coming into Saturday’s game before giving up four in a span of nine batters between the fifth and sixth innings. Samardzija had allowed just one long ball in his previous five outings.

5: Graveman has failed to make it through six innings in five of his last six appearances.

6: Relievers used Saturday by the A’s, who used five members of their bullpen in Friday’s 12-2 loss to Houston.

9: Home runs in 140 at-bats this season by Oakland’s Danny Valencia, who launched a solo shot in the sixth.

10: Consecutive games in which the A’s Stephen Vogt has a hit.

18-5: The Giants’ record in their last 23 games.

20: Runs driven in this season by San Francisco pitchers after Samardzija’s RBI single in the second. Giants pitchers had 22 RBIs over the course of the 2015 season.

40: A’s infielder Jed Lowrie had gone a career-long 40 games without a home run to start the season before his solo drive to the first row in the seats in right field with two outs in the ninth tied the game at 5-5.

.257: Buster Posey’s batting average after the Giants’ All-Star catcher went 0 for 4.
