CIF ruling could determine Central Catholic football opponent

The CIF on Wednesday ruled against McClymonds High School, which sought to overturn the suspension of quarterback Kevin Davidson.

The suspension saddled the Oakland school with four forfeit losses since it’s believed Davidson transferred from San Ramon Valley (Danville) solely for athletic reasons. McClymonds is undefeated on the field this year but is 8-4 with the forfeits.

The Warriors lost to Central Catholic in the Northern California regional championship the past two seasons, and are ranked No. 2 behind the Raiders in Cal-Hi Sports’ bowl rankings this year.

Overturning the forfeit losses likely would have given McClymonds a third crack at Central Catholic, which is a virtual lock for a NorCal bowl berth when the matchups are announced Sunday. That leaves Capital Christian (Sacramento) and Salesian (Richmond) as the most likely opponents for the Raiders.
