Ghiorso does it all in Central Valley’s victory over Enochs

Moses Ghiorso settled into an ice bath following a 42-21 victory over Enochs.

Then and only then did the Eagles stand a chance at catching the fleet-footed Central Valley star.

Ghiorso totaled 413 all-purpose yards and all five touchdowns, highlighting a second-half assault by the Hawks.

Central Valley trailed 21-18 at the intermission, but outscored the undermanned Eagles 24-3 over the final two quarters.

“I’ve never had a night like this,” Ghiorso said, “not even in a video game. Tonight was good.”

The Hawks wanted to use this final non-conference game as a tune-up for Western Athletic Conference play, which begins next week.

After a turbulent start, Central Valley finally settled into a cruising speed. That speed: Well, as fast as Ghiorso could run.

The running back had touchdowns runs 2, 20 and 79 yards, and later found pay dirt on an 87-yard reception.

Ghiorso said he was willing to do whatever it took for the victory – and it showed. He finished with 199 rushing yards, 144 receiving yards and 70 yards in the return game.

His 20-yard burst with 7:07 left in the third quarter gave Central Valley the lead for good, 25-21.

“We were 1-2 going into this game and we needed this win,” he said. “It was all or nothing. Going in, I was mentally focused and our team was focused. We really needed this win.”

Central Valley (2-2) travels to Pacheco next week for the start WAC play. Enochs (0-4) hosts Davis in their Modesto Metro Conference opener.
