Hilmar falls short against talented San Benito
The Hilmar High football knew it would have its hands full on Friday night against San Benito.
The Haybalers came into the game – their season opener – having won their final six games last season, including the CIF Central Coast Section Division I title in December against Salinas.
They showed no signs of slowing down, running out to a 21-7 first-quarter lead en route to a 49-20 victory over the Yellowjackets.
Hilmar, which won its season-opener last week against Livingston, got touchdown runs in the first half from Daniel Texeira (20 yards) and Cody Renfro(25).
But in the end, Hilmar couldn’t keep up against the team from Hollister.
Texeira finished with seven catches for 146 yards.
Next Friday, Hilmar plays at Sonora (1-1), which beat Lodi 23-13 on Friday.
