While Downey’s offense struggled to put up points in a tough environment at Hughson High last Friday, the Knights’ defense sealed the win.

Defensive back Ezekiel Toledo broke up six passes, including four in the second half, Antwain Harper had an interception and Jack Hinchey, Ismael Lopez, Derrick Kirkendall and Ryne Moore combined for five sacks.

While everyone contributed, an argument can be made that no one flew to the ball more than linebacker Noah Cruz. The senior, who leads the team in tackles, was everywhere against the Huskies, finishing with a game high 17 tackles.

The fans noticed his performance and voted him The Bee’s football Player of the Week.

Cruz finished first, earning 73% of the votes in the weekly poll. He came in ahead of Gregori’s Trey Webb and Patterson’s Jeremiah Lugo who finished second and third, respectively.
