Here’s who fans picked as the Stanislaus District’s football Player of the Week

High school football

The Johansen football team won its season opener for the first time since 2019, beating Modesto 46-12 in a balanced offensive Week 1 game. While they scored a pair of passing touchdowns, Johansen coach Rod Smith insists the Vikings “still like to run the ball.”

Senior Tek Garcia ran the ball hard in the win, rushing for 215 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries. He combined with junior Jairus Vasquez (eight carries, 110 yards) in producing more rushing yards than the entire Modesto team.

The fans noticed Garcia’s performance, voting him The Bee’s Week 1 Player of the Week.

Garcia finished first, earning 33% of the more than 19,000 votes in the weekly poll. He came in ahead of Ripon’s Xzavier Clark and Gregori’s Marcus Sims who finished second and third, respectively.
