Turlock’s Cinderella season came to an end in Friday night’s CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I semifinal against third-seeded Oak Ridge.

The seventh-seeded Bulldogs upset top seeded St. Mary’s last week, advancing to the semis for the first time in school history.

In the game, Oak Ridge’s defense proved to be the difference. The Trojans held a Bulldog offense that was averaging 47 points in its past five wins scoreless in a 24-0 game.

Turlock’s defense held its opponent scoreless in the second and fourth quarters while allowing just seven points in the third, but a 17-point first quarter gave the Trojans enough momentum to come out victorious.

Cole Gilbert threw one interception and Oak Ridge quarterback Maddox Varella completed two first-quarter touchdown passes.

It will be an all Sierra Foothill League D-I final as Oak Ridge plays top-seeded Folsom Friday at 6 p.m. at Sacramento City College.

No. 5 Escalon 23, No. 1 Sutter 2: Escalon was the second straight team to shut out Sutter in the first half of a D-V playoff game. The Cougars led 15-0 heading into the break and rolled to the victory. The only points Sutter scored came on a third-quarter safety. Escalon will play second-seeded Sonora on Saturday at 6 p.m. at St. Mary’s High School. The Wildcats beat Dixon 49-34 in the other semifinal.

No. 1 Ripon Christian 55, No. 4 Stone Ridge Christian 12: The Knights advanced to the D-VII championship with a win over Stone Ridge Christian at the Corral in Oakdale. Ripon Christian led 28-6 at the half and allowed just six points in the second half as it coasted to victory. The Knights face Woodland Christian in the final on Friday at 6 p.m. at St. Mary’s High School. The third-seeded Cardinals beat Le Grand 44-0.
