With limited numbers on its football team, Waterford High players have to be versatile.

Nearly everyone plays both ways and the Wildcats have responded with a 3-4 record heading into their fifth league game. One player who is having a great season for Waterford is first-year player Eli Rutherford who has accounted for 10 of 18 rushing touchdowns and four passing scores.

The senior led the charge in Week 8 as the Wildcats earned their second league win this season. He rushed for 167 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries on offense and had five tackles and an 89-yard pick six against Gustine. It is his third time rushing for over 160 yards in four games.

Rutherford came in first place in the weekly poll. He earned the most votes ahead of Michael Marsden of Gregori and Escalon’s Josh Graham who finished in second and third place, respectively.
