Roundup: Orestimba wins another SL game; Enochs, Gregori, Central Catholic pick up wins
Quarterback Alex Milan started hot for Orestimba on Friday night against Delhi. The Warriors remain perfect in Southern League play, winning their fifth league game in convincing fashion, 45-7 on homecoming night.
Milan threw two touchdown passes before the end of the first quarter, and running back Kai Brazil added a rushing touchdown for a 21-0 lead after 12 minutes. Three more scores in the second quarter capped by a 45-yard punt return from Jahi Davis gave the Warriors a 42-0 lead heading into halftime.
The defense held the Hawks scoreless for nearly the whole game, but Delhi was able to push seven points across in the fourth quarter.
Orestimba will have the chance for its first perfect league record since sweeping the Southern League three straight seasons from 2015-2017, finishing the year against Waterford, Denair and Gustine the next three weeks.
Enochs 35, Pitman 22: The Eagles bounced back from last week’s overtime loss with a 13-point win over the Pride. With its first win of the season, Enochs ends a two-game skid. The Eagles will have a quick turnaround as they will play Downey on a short-week Thursday night game. The Knights are undefeated on the season after a win over Turlock on Friday night.
Central Catholic 49, Kimball 13: All four of the Raiders’ first-half touchdowns came on the ground as the Raiders took a 28-13 lead into the intermission against the Jaguars. Quarterback Tyler Wentworth found Brooklyn Cheek on the first drive of the second half as the offense scored 21 second-half points to secure the win. The Raiders’ defense held Kimball scoreless in the second half. The Raiders will take a two-game win streak into next week’s matchup with Oakdale.
Lathrop 33, Davis 12: The Davis offense was able to produce only six points in the second and third quarters each against the Western Athletic Conference’s fourth-place team. Davis gave up an 85-yard kickoff return to start the game but answered in the first with a touchdown. Lathrop led 27-6 heading into halftime and coasted to victory.
Oakdale 35, East Union 21: With the game tied at 21 apiece in the fourth, Oakdale’s defense came up big. Tommy Chance returned a Lancers pass for a pick six that ended up being the difference in the game. The Mustangs jumped out to an early 14-0 lead and took a 21-7 advantage into halftime. East Union scored 14 straight points to tie the game before the defense decided the game.
Gregori 48, Modesto 11: The Jaguars advanced to 2-0 in CCAL play after a dominant win over Modesto. Gregori picked up its second straight win while the Panthers dropped their fifth straight. Both will play Turlock schools next week. Gregori travels to Pitman as Modesto will host Turlock.
Los Banos 43, Johansen 28: Johansen returned a kickoff 85 yards in the first quarter for its first points of the game and set up another scoring drive with a big return in the second, pulling within seven points at 21-14. The Tigers broke the game open near the end of the second quarter, ending the first half by scoring 14 unanswered points. A 14-point fourth quarter wasn’t enough to help the Vikings secure their first win of the season.
Hughson 35, Riverbank 6: Hughson rested its starters most of the game with a big league matchup ahead next week. The Huskies led 28-0 by the end of the first quarter and scored once more in the second quarter. The Bruins scored their first points in three weeks in the loss.
Mountain House 40, Beyer 6: The Patriots scored their only points of the game in the fourth quarter as Mountain House dominated for its second WAC win of the season. Beyer will play Davis next week.
Patterson 52, Central Valley 7: The Tigers opened up a 21-point lead in the first quarter as quarterback Max Medina tossed two touchdown passes in the opening frame. Darius Jackson threw a 38-yard touchdown pass of his own to put the Hawks on the board. Patterson scored 31 straight points to secure its sixth straight win.
Ripon Christian 38, Le Grand 6: Trey Fasani tossed three touchdown passes in the first half as the Knights scored 24 points in the first two quarters. Grant Sonke and Derek Van Elderen once again had great showings to help Fasani and the Knights secure a win. Next week’s league matchup could be big as Ripon Christian takes on third-place Mariposa County. Both teams have 3-1 league records.
Big Valley Christian 51, Millennium 7: The Lions started league play with a big win over the Falcons. With the win, Big Valley ends a two-game losing streak and will look to win another league title with three games remaining.
Livingston 20, Ripon 19: Livingston struck first and took a 14-6 lead into halftime. Ripon scored 13 unanswered points in the third quarter, but missed PATs proved costly in the one-point loss. Livingston surged on a game-winning drive, leaving less than a minute on the clock for Ripon, which couldn’t get into scoring range to set up a game-winning field goal.
