Here’s who fans picked as the Stanislaus District’s football Player of the Week
Hughson High’s offense didn’t need to touch the field before going ahead 14-0 in its Sept. 29 game against Modesto Christian. Two interceptions returned for touchdowns by Alex Villarreal and David Delgado got the Huskies off to a fast start.
Villarreal didn’t stop with just one interception, however. He had a great showing throughout the game.
The junior finished with 45 rushing yards on offense to go with five tackles and two interceptions on defense. He scored the Huskies’ first points on a 93-yard pick six and had over 120 interception return yards. The fans noticed his performance, voting him the Week 7 Player of the Week.
Villarreal came in first, gaining 38% of the votes in the weekly poll. He finished ahead of running backs Sean Hansen Jr. of Patterson and his teammate Liam Bridgford, who finished in second and third, respectively.
