Roundup: Orestimba shuts out Mariposa in SL win; Raiders, Knights bounce back with wins
Orestimba extended its winning streak to four games after shutting out Mairposa County, 49-0, handing the Grizzlies their first loss of the season in a rivalry game.
Vince Lopez showed his versatility in the first half, scoring three touchdowns on a punt return, a run and a 45-yard touchdown catch before the end of second quarter, helping the Warriors extend a 28-point lead at the intermission.
By the end of the third quarter, the Warriors had scored 49 points and didn’t need a single point in the final period to coast to victory.
The Warriors (5-1, 3-0) are on the way to their best league record since 2018 and are just one win away from reaching last season’s six-win total.
They will play winless Delhi next week and end the season playing current second-place Gustine on Oct. 28.
Ripon 48, Riverbank 0: Aiden Krupa ran for two touchdowns and Ty Herrin found Xzavier Clark for two more scores as Ripon rolled to victory over Riverbank. Ripon rebounded from last week’s 20-point loss to Hilmar and will look to string together some Trans-Valley League wins as it hosts Livingston next week.
Oakdale 56, Sierra 16: The Mustangs scored 14 points in each quarter of Friday’s dominant Valley Oak League home opener. All eight touchdowns came on the ground. With the win, Oakdale extended its win streak to four games and will look ahead to East Union next week before finishing the season with Central Catholic, Kimball and Manteca.
Lathrop 34, Beyer 0: The Patriots played Lathrop even in the first quarter, keeping the Spartans scoreless through the opening 12 minutes. Lathrop found its groove starting in the second quarter and took a 14-0 lead into halftime. Two second half interceptions including a pick six in the fourth quarter helped down the Patriots, keeping them winless on the season.
Central Catholic 62, East Union 13: East Union converted a touchdown pass on its first possession but didn’t score again until the fourth quarter as the Raiders opened VOL play with a dominating win over the Lancers. Tyler Jacklich scored the Raiders’ first touchdown on a 97-yard run for one of his four rushing touchdowns. Central Catholic also forced multiple turnovers in the win.
Golden Valley 56, Central Valley 22: The Hawks struggled to stop the Cougars in the first half as they entered the intermission down 28-0. The special teams stepped up to score Central Valley’s first touchdown and quarterback Darrius Jackson threw and ran for plays of more than 60 yards in the second half.
Pacheco 28, Davis 0: The Spartans dropped their second game in a row in Friday’s loss to Pacheco. Davis held the Panthers to just a field goal in the first half, but struggled to get stops in the second. They gave up touchdowns of 41, 61 and 29 yards in the second half.
Patterson 63, Atwater 29: The Tigers jumped on the Falcons early, scoring 14 quick first-quarter points and extending their lead to 35-14 at the half. Patterson extended a 20-point fourth-quarter lead, coasting to victory to remain unbeaten in Central California Conference play.
Downey 76, Modesto 8: The Knights rolled to their first CCAL win of the season, remaining undefeated on the season. Conner Stoddard threw for four touchdown passes and Andres Tamayo had two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. Downey will play Turlock next week in what will be a major factor in how the final league standings play out.
Ripon Christian 56, Waterford 27: The Knights bounced back for their second SL win of the season. Ripon Christian has scored 45 or more points in both of its league wins and will play Le Grand next week. Both teams have 2-1 league records.
Ceres 40, Johansen 6: The Bulldogs won their fifth game of the season in Friday night’s Western Athletic Conference win over Johansen. The defense recorded three tackles for losses and forced one fumble as the Vikings were unable to get their offense going. Johansen will look for its first win of the season against Los Banos as Ceres will take on league leader Pacheco.
