Roundup: Oakdale runs through Enochs; Ceres, MC, Orestimba pick up league wins
Enochs went into The Corral Friday night looking for one final tuneup before starting Central California Athletic League play next week.
The Mustangs welcomed the Eagles as winners of back-to-back games, hoping to enter Valley Oak League play with just one loss coming out of non-league play. They extended their win streak to three Friday night, beating the visiting Eagles 51-7.
Oakdale scored first on a 56-yard run by Cam Guthrie and ended the first quarter ahead 7-0. A 24-point second quarter broke the game wide open as the Mustangs’ running game once again proved to be too much for its opponent. Five of their six touchdowns were rushing scores, four of which were more than 30 yards.
Enochs broke through to score its only touchdown in the fourth quarter but the Mustangs returned a fumble in the game’s final seconds to cap the night’s scoring.
Both teams will open their respective leagues at home next week. Enochs will host Gregori in its first CCAL game and Oakdale will welcome Sierra.
Ceres 36, Beyer 14: The Bulldogs rebounded from last week’s league-opening loss to Lathrop against winless Beyer. It is the third game this season Ceres has held its opponent to under 20 points. The Bulldogs are 2-1 in those games. For Beyer, a team still looking for its first win of the season, the 14 points are the Patriots’ second-highest scoring output of the season. Both teams continue league play next week. Ceres visits Johansen and Beyer travels to Lathrop.
Lodi 42, Gregori 20: The Jaguars visited Lodi knowing they’d have to stop the run if they wanted to have any success Friday night. Unfortunately, the Flames proved to be too much. Lodi scored four touchdowns on the ground and two more through the air as it finished a perfect 5-0 non-league schedule. Gregori trailed 21-0 at halftime, but rebounded in the second, scoring all 20 of its points in the final two quarters. The Jaguars made it a game in the third as Conner Bailey hit Nate Dobbins for their first score and after recovering an onside kick, Michael Marsden scored on a 22-yard run, making it a 21-14 game. The Flames would score 21 points the rest of the way to seal the win.
Mountain House 20, Johansen 6: The Vikings were unable to hand Mountain House its second league loss Friday night. The Mustangs made it a point to get their first WAC win as they jumped out to an early 14 point lead which they took into halftime. The Vikings’ defense stepped up in the second half as they only allowed two field goals, but the offense wasn’t able to close the gap.
Hughson 41, Livingston 20: The Huskies jumped on Livingston quickly, scoring all of its first half points in the second quarter to take a 20-7 halftime lead. Robert McDaniel threw five touchdown passes.
St. John Bosco 65, Central Catholic 0: The Braves showed why they’re one of the top two teams in California and the nation with Friday night’s win over the Raiders. Two Bosco quarterbacks combined to complete 14 of 18 passes for 320 yards and six touchdowns. Tyler Wentworth completed 8 of 23 passes for 81 yards and Tyler Jacklich had 26 yards on nine carries. The Raiders start Valley Oak League play next week at home against East Union.
Modesto Christian 36, Riverbank 0: The Crusaders rebounded from the Week 5 blowout loss to Ripon with a shutout of unbeaten Riverbank. In securing their fifth win, Modesto Christian continues to produce in its best season since 2018. The Crusaders will host Hughson next week before two straight road games against Escalon and Livingston.
Delta-Clarksburg 20, Big Valley Christian 6: The Lions scored the game’s first touchdown, but after that, their offense went cold. Delta scored in the first three quarters, putting up 20 unanswered points en route to victory. Big Valley will host Hamilton next week in its final non-league game.
Oak Ridge 61, Pitman 0: The Pride were unable to find the end zone against the Sacramento Bee’s fourth-ranked team. Pitman will look to put together a better performance next week against Turlock in the Harvest Bowl.
Le Grand 49, Waterford 35: The Wildcats turned the ball over four times, giving Le Grand plenty of chances to capitalize and score. Even with the problems taking care of the ball, the offense produced enough to keep the game within two touchdowns but Waterford wasn’t able to mount a comeback to fall to 1-1 in Southern League play.
Buhach Colony 42, Central Valley 21: Josiah Sandoval started the game with a bang as he took the opening kickoff back for a touchdown and the offense capitalized on a fumble to put the Hawks ahead 14-0 before the 5-minute mark in the first quarter. But once the Thunder got their feet under them, they rolled. A 20-point second quarter and 15-point third gave Buhach Colony a 35-14 lead after three. Both teams scored a touchdown in the final quarter.
Orestimba 21, Ripon Christian 7: The usually productive Trey Fasani struggled against the Warriors’ defense, completing 6 of 26 passes with two interceptions. After allowing just seven points last week, the Knights’ defense allowed 21 against Orestimba. After finishing fourth in the SL last season, a 2-0 record makes Orestimba one of the teams to beat early in league play.
