Roundup: Ripon Christian dominates to open league, Oakdale and Turlock win in Bay Area
The Knights got everyone involved on offense as more than five players scored in a dominant 49-7 win over Denair.
Derek Van Eldren and Grant Sonke each rushed for over 100 yards and one touchdown. Trey Fasani threw touchdown passes to Jace Beidleman and Griffin de Abreu and rushed for one more.
The Knights (3-1, 1-0) dropped their season opener to Central Valley Christian in a disappointing 42-14 loss but have since rebounded, winning three straight games and not allowing more than seven points in each. In wins this season, they are outscoring their opponents 124-20.
After back-to-back home games, Ripon Christian will play its next two league games on the road against Orestimba and Waterford, which both picked up wins to start Southern Athletic League play.
Turlock 35, Clayton Valley Charter 33: The Bulldogs went into Concord and picked up a huge win over the Ugly Eagles. Turlock led 21-14 at the half and the defense held strong in the fourth quarter to help secure the win. Senior linebacker Logan Bankson came up big with one interception and a forced fumble. The Bulldogs handed Clayton Valley its third home loss of the season and will have a bye next week before starting Central California Athletic League play on Sept. 30.
Oakdale 64, Miramonte 42: The Mustangs ran all over the Matadors in Orinda as they scored more than 50 points for the second straight game. The Crusaders scored on their first possession courtesy of a 12-yard Ross Widemon and Jeremiah Bernard connection, but didn’t score again until early in the second half.
Pacheco 16, Johansen 6: The Vikings fell to 0-4 on the season and 0-1 in Western Athletic Conference play with Friday night’s loss. Valley Christian 42, Riverbank 21: The Bruins lost their final non league matchup of the season Friday night. A 22-point Valley Christian second quarter put the game out of reach. They will kick off Trans-Valley League play next week at Modesto Christian.

The Spartans offense came up big as they scored a touchdown on the final possession to secure the win.
Hughson 29, Escalon 14: In what was possibly the upset of the night, the Huskies beat top-ranked rival Escalon on the road. Hughson went into the half with a 17-8 lead and extended it to 23-8 in the fourth quarter. Both teams would score later in the final frame, but the early lead was enough to lead Hughson to victory. Escalon will look to regroup with a bye next week and Hughson will host Livingston.
Sierra 23, Modesto 20: With both teams needing a win, the Panthers’ final non-league game was cut short in the second quarter due to an incident on the practice field. Modesto has a bye next week but it is unknown whether the game will be finished at a later date.
