A new football season brings new opportunities. Some players emerge as leaders while others see their role expand as they gain more experience. Central Catholic won Sac-Joaquin Section and Northern California titles last season largely due to the success of Aiden Taylor and Julian Lopez, who combined for more than 3,000 rushing yards.

Though he started the majority of last season, this year, quarterback Tyler Wentworth could impact his team positively as a leader with an expanded role this year as Central Catholic has reworked its offense to incorporate more of a passing attack. The fans think Wentworth will have a breakout season as well, voting the junior The Bee’s Preseason MVP.

Wentworth earned 47% of the more than 50,000 votes in the first weekly poll of the football season. He finished in first ahead of Patterson running back Sean Hansen Jr. and Davis quarterback Adrian Gallegos who finished in second and third, respectively.
