After six seasons as the football coach at Central Valley High School, Scott Edwards has stepped down.

The news was first reported by the Ceres Courier on Thursday.

“It was an extremely difficult decision,” Edwards told the Ceres Courier’s Dale Butler. “For many reasons, it was time to step away from the game and see what life will be like without it. My son (Logan) is going to start high school next year. My daughter (Brenna) is one year away. I want to be involved in my children’s extra-curricular activities. I’m a pretty good dad and husband when I’m home. I give them all my attention.”

Edwards was 32-30 during his tenure and guided the Hawks to a Western Athletic Conference title in 2016. The Hawks also made the playoffs in 2015.

Central Valley went 4-6 in 2019 and will return junior running back Isaiah Hidalgo, who rushed for 983 yards and 12 touchdowns this year.
