Prediction column: Week 10 rivalry games will settle league titles. How cool is that?

Where will you be? Who do you like? Here’s a quick look at Week 10’s must-see match-ups and our picks:

Oakdale (8-1, 6-0) at Central Catholic (8-0, 6-0): The Bee’s top-two large-school teams are also the top two teams in the southern half of the Sac-Joaquin Section. The No. 2 Raiders have won two of the last three meetings with the top-ranked Mustangs, but with 14 returning senior starters, Oakdale can draw on last year’s victory for confidence. The game will feature explosive ground attacks. Cameron Cherry and Dauson Booker have put together MVP-type seasons despite sitting out most second halves in VOL play. Oakdale has been the season-long No. 1 for a reason: It’s experience and talent, especially on the offensive and defensive lines, is unmatched in the Stanislaus District. Pick: Oakdale.

Orestimba (9-0, 6-0) at Gustine (8-1, 6-0): The Warriors are hunting history on Friday behind enemy lines. With a win, the Orestimba football team can become the school’s first boys’ team to win three consecutive league titles since the 1940s. With a dangerous three-headed ground attack, Gustine won’t just lay down. Oliver Perez is the best of the bunch, a third-year senior that can -- and has -- done it all in coach Ronnie LaBry’s first season. “He’ll do whatever you ask,” LaBry said. “He can run the ball, throw the ball and kick the ball.” Gustine leads the all-time series 35-34-2, but has lost 10 of the last 12. That trend continues. Pick: Orestimba.

Pitman (5-4, 4-1) at Turlock (7-2, 5-0): A rivalry that once threatened to pull apart a community now brings it together. Turlock Together, a voluntary cooperative made up of local ministries, service clubs and businesses, has partnered with the Harvest Bowl to help the less fortunate during the holiday season. Spirit ribbons will be sold at the game for $2. On the field, the Bulldogs have become the class of the Central California Conference, and they’re doing it with arguably the best defense in the district. Turlock has won six straight games and clinched a share of the league title last week. Pitman has a two-game winning streak, but is 0-3 against playoff-bound teams. Much too inconsistent for me. Pick: Turlock.

Big Valley Christian (9-0, 4-0) at Stone Ridge Christian (8-1, 4-0): The Lions have matched the best start in program history, but face their toughest test of the season. Despite its ever-turning coaching carousel, Stone Ridge Christian has maintained its winning ways. Shane Casillas sets the tone, offensively. After missing his entire junior season recovering from a leg injury, Casillas is on the cusp of a 1,000-yard season. On the opposite side of the ball, seniors Luke Jenkins and Gabe Bartholomew rank among the section leaders in sacks. Here’s the rub: Big Valley won’t throw the ball much. Not with sophomore Javyn Drobnick, who leads the district with 1,496 rushing yards. Drobnick had a district-best 372 yards in last week’s victory over Riverbank. In a stunning a season for the little-school Lions, first-year coach Brian Berkefeld has got one more surprise up his sleeve. Pick: Big Valley Christian.
