Short night for District’s leading rusher. No. 1 Oakdale still cruises.
Cameron Cherry had his season-long streak of 100-yard rushing games stopped at seven, but the Oakdale machine never sputtered.
The top-ranked Mustangs throttled past Kimball (1-7, 1-4) on Friday evening, 42-0. Oakdale has won 11 of its last 12 VOL games, including six straight.
Cherry was reportedly removed from the game in the second quarter after a tackle along the sideline. He finished with 60 yards on seven carries, and a 15-yard touchdown reception from Marc Dickson.
With the Stanislaus District’s leading rusher sidelined, the Mustangs looked elsewhere for production.
Josh Jacobson had a team-high 114 yards on 20 carries, including a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Bronson Harmon had 10 carries for 54 yards and a touchdown, a 6-yard burst to make it 28-0.
Oscar Ramos also found the end zone. Ramos had a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter to make it 21-0 at the intermission. He finished with 81 yards on 15 carries, and scored on runs of 6 and 1 yard.
C.J. Toledo capped the scoring for Oakdale with a 2-yard run midway through the fourth quarter.
The Mustangs (7-1, 5-0) host Lathrop next Friday.
