Prep roundup: Idehen scores 27 as Modesto Christian remains perfect; Merced beats Turlock
Robinson Idehen scored a career-best 27 points and the University of the Pacific-bound Anthony Townes added 18 as Modesto Christian breezed to an 87-51 Modesto Metro Conference victory over Modesto on Friday at the Panther Palace.
Modesto Christian improves to 17-3 overall and 9-0 in conference play. The Panthers fall to 8-13, 5-4.
Idehen and Townes were joined in double figures by Tyler Williams, who finished with 10 points.

The Crusaders put this one away early, outscoring Modesto 27-6 in the opening quarter. The Panthers fought back and were outscored in the second and third quarters by a more respectable 39-33 margin.
Johansen 55, Davis 48, at Johansen – Mo Woods scored a game-high 22 points in leading the Vikings to an MMC victory over the Spartans. Talolo Limu-Jones scored 16 points and Jordan Davis added 14 to lead the Spartans.
Merced 59, Turlock 57, at Merced – The Bears spent most of Friday night playing from behind against Turlock, and never caught up.
Turlock, 13-9 overall, 6-1 in the Central California Conference, had at least one double-digit lead over Merced (15-9, 4-3 CCC) in all four quarters, but the Bulldogs could never deliver the knockout blow.
Demsen McFaddin led four Turlock players in double figures with 17 points.
Golden Valley 74, Buhach Colony 39, at Merced – Isaac Daniel scored 19 points as all 10 Cougars on the roster scored in the rout. Golden Valley (12-11, 5-2 CCC) remains one game behind Turlock in the standings.
Pitman 56, Atwater 52, at Atwater – Branson Garcia scored 20 points as the Pride (11-10, 4-3) spoiled the Falcons’ homecoming festivities. Pitman outscored Atwater 34-22 in the second half. Brody Patterson led Atwater (10-14, 2-5) with 12 points.
Hilmar 67, Riverbank 65, at Hilmar – Nino Ta-a hit a 3-point with less than 30 seconds to play, snapping a tie game as the Yellowjackets held on for a Trans-Valley League victory. Alec Cano led Hilmar with 17 points, while Nik Keydeniers had 18 for the Bruins.
Ripon Christian 58, Hughson 45, at Hughson – Sean Broker led all scorers with 23 points and the Knights defeated the Huskies in a TVL matchup.
In addition to 23 from Broker, RC got 14 from Danny Vander Molen. Broker and teammate Kyle Colyn led the team with seven rebounds apiece. Tyler May paced the Huskies with 16 points.
Manteca 59, East Union 39, at Manteca – The Buffaloes got big all-around efforts from Tydus Verhoeven and Anand Hundal en route to a Valley Oak League over the rival Lancers.
Verhoeven totaled 19 points and eight rebounds while Hundal had 15 points, 13 board and three blocks. Teammate Ja’juan Freeman scored all eight of his points in the second quarter when Manteca (16-5, 8-1) outscored East Union (6-16, 0-9) 22-7.
Millennium 56, Big Valley Christian 53, at Tracy – Daniel Giannosa scored 24 in a Central California Athletic Alliance loss. In addition to Giannosa’s 24, Caleb Hoag had 14 and Josh Camoirano totaled 10.
Le Grand 50, Delhi 46 (OT), at Le Grand – Beto Marquez scored 21 points as the Bulldogs worked extra time to defeat the Hawks after Carlos Alvarez hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the Southern League contest into overtime.
