MMC Roundup: Beyer moves into tie for 2nd; Gregori tops Enochs

The race for second place in the Modesto Metro Conference title just got closer.

George Dancer scored 30 points as Beyer (5-2, 16-3) moved into a tie for second place with a 71-52 victory over Downey on Friday night.

Meanwhile, Enochs (5-2, 13-7) lost to Gregori 47-45 when junior guard Dominic Carrillo hit two free throws with 4.8 seconds left to lift the Jaguars (2-5, 5-13).

Beyer and Enochs trail conference-leading Modesto Christian (7-0, 15-3), which rolled past Johansen 67-31 behind 21 points from Robinson Idehen.

Beyer 71, Downey 52 – Dancer had five 3-pointers as the Patriots hit 10 treys. Jake Polack had 12 points for Beyer, which next plays Wednesday at Gregori.

Daniel Ramirez had 11 points to lead Downey.

Gregori 47, Enochs 45 – Tyler Janitz (14 points), Demetrius Vinson (11) and Brandon Waterford (10) led the way for the Jaguars, who trailed 19-15 at the half but outscored the Eagles 18-9 in the third quarter.

Matt Page led Enochs with a game-high 20 points. Janitz hit three of Gregori’s nine 3-pointers. On Wednesday, Enochs hosts Johansen.

Modesto Christian 67, Johansen 31 – In addition to Idehen’s output, Anthony Townes had 14 points and Christian Ellis 12 for the Crusaders, who led 34-12 at halftime.

Maurice Woods had 17 points to lead the Vikings.

Modesto Christian hosts Davis on Wednesday.

Modesto 62, Davis 61 – Trailing by six at the start of the fourth quarter, the Spartans’ rally fell just short. Talolo Jones had 23 points for Davis (1-6 MMC).

Modesto, which improved to 4-3 in the MMC, was led by Markus Brady’s 19 points. Rajeev Singh (11), Trae Nichols (10) and Orlando Cardenas (10) each scored in double-figures.

Modesto, which has won three straight, hosts Downey on Wednesday.
