Enochs, Gregori girls basketball teams brace for Thursday showdown
Enochs High cruised to a 69-39 girls basketball victory over Davis on Tuesday, setting up a Modesto Metro Conference showdown with Gregori on Thursday night.
The Eagles and Jaguars, who beat Modesto 33-6 Tuesday, are both 5-1 and tied for second place behind unbeaten Modesto Christian in the league standings.
Thursday’s game gets underway at 7:15 p.m. at Enochs High.
Katie Dillon led the Eagles with 13 points against the Spartans, while Raquel Garcia added 12 and Bailey Reynolds chipped in with 11.
TURLOCK CHRISTIAN 52, ELLIOT CHRISTIAN 22, at Turlock – Cassie Balswick led the Eagles with 15 points and Hannah Sawyer added 12. Turlock Christian outscored EC 10-0 in the first quarter and never looked back, improving to 12-7 overall and 2-1 in Central California Athletic Alliance.
BIG VALLEY CHRISTIAN 38, STONE RIDGE CHRISTIAN 36, at Merced – The Lions overcame a 20-point outing by Rachel Kaler en route to a CCAA win over the Lions. Annabelle Camoirano led BVC (5-11, 1-2) with nine points and Maci Miedema added eight.
Boys Basketball
BIG VALLEY CHRISTIAN 76, STONE RIDGE CHRISTIAN, at Merced – Daniel Giannosa and Caleb Hoag combined for more than half of BVC’s total offensive output as the Lions (10-5, 3-2) bested the Knights (5-11, 0-5) in a CCAA contest.
Giannosa scored a game-high 22 while Hoag added 17. Trey Hudson joined them in double figures with 10. Jesse Johnston paced SRC with 12, followed by Weiton Taylor, with 10.
LE GRAND 61, WATERFORD 52, at Waterford – Beto Marquez’s three-point play with less than 2 minutes to play helped the Bulldogs (1-10, 1-4 Southern League) pull away for their first victory of the season.
Marquez led all scorers with 22 points, while teammate Frankie Contreras added 15 and Sergio Gomez scored 12. Rayndy Ogden led Waterford (2-14, 1-4) with 17 points and Devin Barber had 15.
HUGHSON 69, ESCALON 60, at Hughson, – Escalon’s Chapman Mello and Hughson’s Jake Garza engaged in a scoring duel during Tuesday’s Trans-Valley League game. Mello won the duel with 28 points to Garza’s 23, but Garza and the Huskies (11-6, 1-1) won the game. Sam Lattig added 19 for the Cougars (0-2, 9-10), while Devondre Stendardo totaled 12 for the Huskies.
Wrestling
CENTRAL VALLEY 66, PACHECO 13, at Ceres – The Hawks (4-0) remained unbeaten in Western Athletic Conference matches, while Pacheco (0-3) still is searching for its first win. Central Valley won six matches by forfeit and got pins from Luis Saucedo (122), Christian Oliver (128), Gabriel Martinez (172), Joaquin Garcia (184) and Adrian Badillo (197).
