2016 All-Stanislaus District Girls Basketball Team

Large School

Note: Comprised of players from the Modesto Metro Conference, Valley Oak League, Western Athletic Conference and Central California Conference.

Coach of the Year: Jim Agostini, East Union

Player of the Year: Stephanie Moore, guard, Golden Valley

First Team

Olivia Vezaldenos, East Union: The Valley Oak League MVP averaged 20.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 5.5 assists at guard while leading the Lancers to a perfect run through the VOL.

Katie Dillon, Enochs: The guard and Eagles’ career scoring leader was also the Modesto Metro Conference’s best shooter, averaging 14.8 points and making 38 percent of her threes (45 of 120).

Nicole Warwick, Modesto Christian: There might be no better athlete in the Stanislaus District than this 5-foot-7 guard; averaged 11.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and nearly 2.0 steals.

Lailoni Gaines, Modesto Christian: The Modesto Metro Conference MVP shouldered the scoring load for the Crusaders at wing; averaged 15.1 points and a league-best 6.8 rebounds.

Loretta Kakala, Manteca: A bona fide Division I recruit, the guard-forward shook off an injury-marred December to lead the Buffaloes in scoring (16.0 points per game), rebounding (8.5) and visits from major-college coaches.

Second Team

Zakiya Williams, Enochs: The junior point guard led the Modesto Metro Conference in scoring (15.2), assists (2.6) and steals (4.4).

Lea Anderson, Davis: Sophomore guard made splash for the Spartans, averaging 21.6 points, 8 rebounds and 5.4 assists.

Mikayla Mabie, Central Valley: Finished second in the nation in assists per game at 10.1; was named Western Athletic Conference MVP.

Danielle Friedrich, Central Catholic: All-VOL first-team selection had eight double doubles in league; averaged 18.4 points and 10.0 rebounds.

Jaydon Williams, Turlock: Only a freshman, the 6-foot Williams led the CCC in rebounding (10.4) and ranked in the top six in scoring (11.8) and steals (4.0s).

Honorable Mention

VOL: Ruby Daube, East Union; Donja Payne, East Union; Syd’Nee Fryer, Manteca. MMC: Rachel Smith, Modesto Christian; Lexia Bell-White, Modesto Christian.

CCC: Abbee Croninger, Golden Valley; Kaylin Randhawa, Pitman; Lexi Thompson, Merced.

Small School

Note: Comprised of players from the Trans-Valley League, Mother Lode League, Southern League, Central California Athletic Association.

Coach of the Year: Edwin Santiago, Turlock Christian

First Team

Cassie Balswick, Turlock Christian: The heart and soul of the Division VI section runner-ups, Balswick dictated games on the defensive end, where she ranked second in the section in steals with 7.4 per game.

Jill Jamero, Ripon: In likely her final season of basketball, senior point guard was named Trans-Valley League MVP; will attend Air Force on a soccer scholarship.

Alyssa Silva, Waterford: One of the rising talents in the Stanislaus District, Silva led the Wildcats to the school’s first-ever postseason berth in basketball by averaging 9.6 points, 6.9 steals and 6.5 rebounds.

Kristen Dubberke, Mariposa: Averaged 14.8 points, 9.1 rebounds and 4.4 steals en route to the Southern League MVP award.

Makenna Poole, Sonora: The Mother Lode League MVP was the Gold Country’s best all-around player with averages of 11.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 4.2 steals and 1.2 blocks.

Second Team

Karla Calderon, Ripon: An all-TVL first-team selection, Calderon led the Indians in total points (224), field goals (83) and steals (85).

Riley Henington, Sonora: The MLL’s Most Outstanding Player was among top three in the league in points (10.6), assists (4.0) and steals (3.2).

Sierra Nabors, Riverbank: The 5-foot-7 guard led the Trans-Valley League in scoring at 15.5 points; had eight games of 20 or more points.

McCalister Russell, Turlock Christian: Averaged 9.3 points and 10.4 rebounds, including 6.0 on the offensive glass for the Eagles.

Payton Church, Orestimba: Led the SL in scoring at 16.0 points per game; also averaged 8.3 rebounds en route to all-SL first-team selection.

Honorable Mention

MLL: Cali Anderson, Bret Harte. SL: Nicole Graham, Ripon Christian; Jessica Orozco, Ripon Christian; Abby Ridge, Waterford. TVL: Sarah Leal, Escalon; Janelle Anderson, Escalon; Hannah Alcorn, Hughson; Hailey Monroe, Ripon. CCAA: Mikayla Yagi, Turlock Christian.
